What is ACRF’s Brave Shave?
ACRF’s Brave Shave encourages people to seize the clippers in support of the countless brave Australians who face cancer every day, On World Cancer Research Day, September 24, ACRF is asking you to shave your head and raise vital funds for research into all types of cancer. How do I ensure my shave or cut is safe?
Your local hairdresser may volunteer to shave or cut your hair for free if you let them know you’re cutting or shaving for cancer research. Or you can organise your own event at work, with some friends or do it at home. If you choose to DIY your shave or cut – be safe! Here are some tips:
- Shave or Cut: Consider getting a barber or hairdresser to shave your hair or cut. Barbers and hairdressers have the tools and lotions to do this properly, making sure your cut is neat and even, reducing the risk of irritating your scalp that is not used to being shaved.
- Be Safe: If you choose to shave or cut your hair yourself it’s a good idea that a first aid kit is available in case of accidental injury and always have a parent or adult present. Cutters and shavers and sweeper-uppers should all wear disposable gloves during your event.

- Sustainable Salons
- Wigs 4 Kids
- Ella Wigmakers
- Children With Hair Loss
- Check the donation requirements: Each organisation has specific guidelines. Generally, hair should be clean and without styling products and at least 20cm long. Coloured Colored or permed hair is acceptable, and gray hair may also be used. Make sure to bundle the hair in a ponytail or braid before donating, tying a hairband around each end.
- Mail your donation: Place your clean, dry hair inside a Ziploc bag within a manila or padded envelope. Adequate postage is essential when mailing your donation. Check with your local post office to ensure proper postage.
