"I know she felt like she had lost her femininity in losing her hair, but for me, it had the opposite effect. I suppose because, for me, it was a choice."
In 2019, Ali’s mum, Deborah, was diagnosed with cancer and began chemotherapy that same week. Despite her strength, kindness, and vibrancy, losing her hair during treatment was painful for Deborah.
In July 2020, Deborah begun further treatment through a research trial and sadly passed away in November 2020. Ali struggled to focus on anything after her beautiful mum passed. In an effort to honour her and raise vital funds for cancer research, Ali decided to brave the shave.
"At first, I aimed to raise $1,000, but my amazing community helped me hit that goal in just two hours! So, I bumped it up to $5,000, and by the time of the shave, I had raised well over that."
