Our Story
I’m taking the ACRF Hair Dare to support Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) in their mission to achieve a world without cancer. Every dollar donated contributes to cancer research and I'm so thankful to each and every one of you amazing people that donated!
Earlier this year my partner, Thibault, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer quite randomly. He had been having stomach pains for weeks on end. He went to his GP, and she referred him for a CT scan which showed the growths. Thibault and I met last winter whilst doing a ski season in New Zealand, we have since spent majority of our time together travelling in a van, hiking and getting our certificates to be outdoor guides. For someone so active and healthy, this diagnosis was a complete shock to himself and everyone around him.
He started the process of chemotherapy in April and is still undergoing treatment. Chemotherapy is incredibly gruelling for the body to undergo and not only does it target and kill off cancerous cells, but also, healthy cells as well. It causes major disruptions to the nervous system, digestive tract, organs, bone marrow and hair follicles. Thibault has always had long locks, so in support of him and to raise awareness to the increase in cancer diagnoses in young people, I will be shaving my hair on the 21st of November. My hope is to raise money for research specialising in alternative treatment's so everyone has the best chance of beating this greedy disease. I'd like everyone who reads this to reflect on their own lifestyle's, check in with their bodies and don't ignore any warning signs. Cancer doesn't discriminate.
