Im dedicating my challenge to my Dad, Alex
Why Walk 60kms in May?
Cancer is the most prevalent group of diseases that still does not have a cure. Part of this is due to the cost of research, as well as the scope of cancer types existent.
We may not be scientists, we may not be doctors, but there is a power that we all have, something no one can take away from us; our voices.
So with my voice, I will tell my story.
When I was three years old, my dad passed away from lung cancer. He had never smoked and lived a very health-conscious life. He was a wonderful man, who is talked of fondly by everyone who knew him.
Cancer cut his life short. I was too young to recall the memories we shared during my life as a toddler, but occasionally he springs back to life in old photos and videos. Each time we visit his grave, I can't help but think that had lived in a different world, perhaps his death, perhaps the grief, could have been prevented. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, cancer is responsible for around 3 of every 10 deaths in Australia.
I'm certain that my dad would be proud to see me and so many others who join fundraisers such as this, uniting to help get us all closer to a cancer-free future.

In memory of your dad
