Cut it for a cause

By Teaghan Saunders

Hi my name is Teaghan, and I am a Year 10 student from Perth WA.

I currently work at McDonald’s but I am striving for a career in Early Childhood Education; as I love working with children and supporting their growth and development.

I live with my Mum, Dad, Older Brother, and our two pets Mister (our energetic Jack Russell) and Floyd (our playful Russian Blue).

Outside of School and Work, I find myself having a passion for dancing; being able to express emotions through movement is a gift, that I will always appreciate.

I chose to support ACRF because cancer is a horrible disease that has taken so much from me, my family and my friends. Through this fundraiser, I hope to contribute to a cancer free future, that allows people to spend more time with their loved ones. I am doing this for my Poppy (who I lost to a rare blood cancer around 2 years ago), for my Nanna (that I never got to meet, as cancer took her away from my family at just 50 years of age), for Kelly (who at age 40 was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer), for My Auntie Rose (who is still fighting cancer like a warrior), and for those who have defeated cancer, who are still fighting it, and those we have lost because of it.

I chose the hair dare, because I love my long hair. But I have the choice to keep it, those who have to suffer through viscous cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, often have no choice but to loose their hair. I am not one to take risks, but I hope my bravery can help people understand the importance of this organisation. On the 16th of September, I cut off around 9 inches of my long hair, for those who didn’t have a choice.
