60km In May

I am taking on 60km In May for cancer research!

I am taking part in Australian Cancer Research Foundation's 60km In May challenge to help raise essential funds for lifesaving cancer research.

In May, I will be walking 60km or more in support of the 2 in 5 Australians who will face a cancer diagnosis by the age of 85.

By committing to support brilliant cancer research, we can help to transform the way we prevent, detect and treat ALL types of cancer.

Please support me in my challenge so that we can move towards a cancer-free future together.

My Updates

Final update!

Well unfortunately due to a pre-existing condition which inconveniently flared up on the final day of the challenge, i was unable to complete one last workout which was frustrating because I really did want to get to the 80km mark.

But I am still incredibly proud of my achievements. Getting to almost 78 kilometres and raising over $500 for the foundation is certainly nothing to be sneezed at!

One final thank you to everyone for the incredible support I received during the challenge, especially to my generous sponsors who didn't think twice is donating money to what is a very worthwhile cause.

Thank you. Bye for now!  :)

Day 30 - one day to go!!

It was the penultimate workout of the challenge today, and a solid 6.7km one at that which saw me head over to Rockhampton's new and improved Browne Park (now known by its new sponsored name of Aurizon Stadium), the home of the Central Queensland Capras.

Tomorrow is the final day of the 60km in May Challenge, and I'm proud to say I've added quite a few kms on the back of the 60km target.  :)

Day 22!

With less than 10 days remaining in the ACRF 60km in May Challenge, I'm keen to walk those extra "bonus" kilometres while I still have a chance. With another 4km+ walk tonight, those extra km's are gradually adding up :)

It's Day 20!

Another day of the ACRF's 60km in May challenge and another 2.8km walked! Even though, I've passed the 60km mark, I'm still keen to see how many "bonus" kilometres I can walk.  :)

We did it on Day #17!

We did it!!!

I have now surpassed the 60 kilometre goal for the 60km in May challenge! When I first started the challenge, I assumed I'd struggle to get to half that amount by the month's end. But here we are on Day #17 with an overall total of 62km+.

It's not over though! I'm keen to see how many supplementary kilometres I can walk by Day #31.  :)

Day #16 - we're halfway through the month of May!

After an all-day shift at work yesterday, I gave last night's workout a miss (let's call it a half time break) but I more than made up for it this morning by enjoying Rockhampton's Saturday morning sunshine with a solid 7km+ effort, which took me over the river up to Bravus Arena and back again!

I am soooo close to the 60km goal, but rest assured once I get there, there's no slowing down (it would be great to get as close to 100 km as possible by the end of the month!)

A huge thanks to this week's donation legends - Amy, Aislin and Matt! Your generosity is amazing!!

Sunshine on Day 15!

After a nice early shift at work, I finished at lunchtime so I finally had the chance to enjoy a 4km+ walk - in the sun!

Additionally, I am absolutely stoked to have exceeded my fundraising goal of $310!  :)

Day 13 - lucky for some (including me!)

On Day 13, I received a nice little surprise in the mail - a free sweatband for being one of the first thousand 60km in May participants to register for the challenge. Nice!

Another 2km+ done tonight. I'm hoping I will get the chance to soak up some sunshine tomorrow for a longer post-shift walk.  Fingers crossed! :)

It's Day 12 and I'm feeling great!

Another solid 3km workout completed tonight. I am feeling great especially with having to go down a size in work pants with all the walking I've been doing!

Both the walking goal and the fundraising goal is now well and truly in sight!

It's Day 11!

Despite another long day at work, I am determined to keep squeezing in walks so another 1.7 km tonight. I am itching to do much longer walks (which hopefully I'll be able to achieve on the weekend) but I'm just happy to keep walking regardless of the distance.  :)

Day #10 (double figures now - yay!)

It's Day #10 of the challenge! I hope all my fellow 60km in May participants are still enjoying the challenge. Some very impressive figures on both the fundraising and distance leaderboards!

Having walked 10 days straight, it's awesome to now be into the double figures on Day #10.  It was a short 1.75km circuit for me tonight, but each walk is gradually adding to the total as I creep towards to the magic 60km.

Feeling fine on Day 9

Well it's Day 9 and I've added another 6km+ to the overall total, and I have to be honest, I'm feeling much better and a more than a little fitter than I did on Day 1 which is being reflected in my times.

I'm also ecstatic to have now raised over $250 for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation!! This means I'm inching closer towards my goal of $310 (with my aim of raising an average of $10 for each day of May).

So again, a HUGE thank you to my sponsors. Special shout outs to the lovely Aliey, the awesome Kyle and the generous Bron  :)

Day 8 and feeling great!

It's Day 8 and although my energy levels were running low after completing an all-day shift on my feet, I was still determined to at least clock up something tonight - and the result was a 1.7 kilometre circuit. Although still a respectable distance, I'm hoping the weekend brings longer distances.  :)

And on the seventh day...

Resisting the temptation to rest, I pushed out a solid 4km+ walk this afternoon on a circuit with a rather steep incline.

With just seven days into the challenge, I'm very excited to already be over the half-way mark. I now have less than 30 kilometres to walk to reach that magic 60km target, and today's effort goes some way in allaying my concerns that the 60km goal would be unobtainable for me personally.

Hoping all the other 60km in May participants are enjoying the challenge while raising some much-needed funds for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Keep going!  :)

Day 6 and we're still on the move!

I'm getting oh-so-close to the half-way mark of 30 kilometres walked in the 60km in May challenge.

Although it's still sporting a nice disgusting purple bruise, the swelling on my big toe has gone down considerably after the 'dinner plate incident' (or DinnerPlateGate if you will) on Monday night so I was keen to increase the distance tonight, especially with the soreness having eased as well.

Tonight's effort saw me add another 3 kilometres to the overall total with a nice brisk walk down to the river and back. I'm hoping to equal that distance again tomorrow and on Friday before I can enjoy longer walks on the weekend.

I'm also very exciting to be inching closer to my target of $310 raised so a HUGE thank you to my kind sponsors!! Your support means a lot to me so thank you for your generosity,  :)

The fifth day...

It's the fifth day of the challenge and I'm feeling good. Well, apart from my big toe which during last night's washing up took the full brunt of a dropped dinner plate! Despite the soreness and the big black bruise under my toenail, I'm determined to push on. After all, what's a sore big toe compared to what cancer patients have to go through. Because that's why we're all doing this - to support the 2 in 5 Aussies who will face a cancer diagnosis before they reach 85.

With a long shift ahead at work today, I was up early this morning before the sun rose above Mount Archer to, somewhat gingerly, squeeze in a 'baby' 1km+ walk to add at least something to my 60km goal. Really hoping to reach the half-way mark by the weekend. Fingers crossed!

May the 'fourth' be with you!

It's May the 4th so of course it's a really important day on the calendar for Star Wars fans. Although I'm not into Star Wars, I'm still hoping the force is with all the '60km in May' participants as we all shift it up a gear.

Not only is it Star Wars Day, but it's also a public holiday in the sunshine state so there wasn't any excuse for me not to get out and complete a hardy 5km+ workout today.

Today's circuit saw me walk past through Rockhampton's beautiful Kershaw Gardens which is full of picturesque walking circuits for all levels of fitness. I'll certainly be returning here more than once before the challenge has ended. :)

Day 3 and it's a solid Sunday arvo workout

After finishing work, there was enough to time to squeeze in a solid Sunday arvo walk before the sun went down. Today's circuit took me past where it all began for the legendary "Rockhampton Rocket"...

It's Day 2 and we're back at it

A glorious Saturday morning with pleasant temperatures prompted me to don the walking shoes and challenge myself with a 6km+ walk along the Bruce Highway from Rockhampton's Stockland shopping centre to the southern banks of the Fitzroy River, returning through Kershaw Gardens.  Feeling great!

...and we're off on Day 1!

It's a Feelgood Friday and as soon as I finished work, my uniform was quickly swapped out for a comfy T-shirt and shorts and I completed a leisurely 5km walk to mark the first day of the 60km in May Challenge :)
