2KM A Day In May Challenge

Support me in backing brilliant!

I am taking part in ACRF's 2km a Day in May challenge to help raise essential funds for lifesaving cancer research.

Every day in May, I will be moving for 6KM (yes 6KM thats a total of 186km for the month) in support of the 2 in 5 Australians who will face a cancer diagnosis by the age of 85.

By committing to support brilliant cancer research, we can help to transform the way we prevent, detect and treat ALL types of cancer.

Let's move towards a cancer-free future together

My Updates

Why am i doing this

People always raise money for all different reasons and im no different.   Cancer lives with all of us and touches us in different ways.  My Nan died when i was young, mates have died because of it, my dad had it and i have friends currently fighting it.  The most significant impact is when i gave a little girl a simple cuddle at the local netball training session and felt a little lump on her leg.  She was only 3 at the time.  After some panic and "what do we do" moments in trying to discover what it was it was all hands on board to support each other while we waited for a diagnosis.  Now some dont realise i was hired as a nanny/babysitter for a good 4 years.  My role was to stand in as a "mum" role to ensure the safety and wellbeing of two little girls (twins). Taking them to appointments, errands and fun activities.  For the next year we were dealing with the uncertaintity of what this would bring to the family.  During this time a local friend was also diagnosed with a rare cancer and was fighting his battle at the same time.  While his story wasnt to be successful one and one of the saddest moments in my life was attending his funeral there was mounting hope for our little girl to continue to get better.

Research and funding for the research is an important part into the fight against cancer and understanding how we can cure and heal people so we dont end up loosing our loved ones so quickly.

Ive always been passionate about getting into exercise and being a part of a team to promote both mental and physical health.  Joining this 2km in May was done on a whim, it stuck with me for a few days before i signed up as my own brain was ticking over how my personal goals can be beneficial for a worthy cause.  Ive been walking every day with the occasional day rest (eg Sunday) for the past month.  Recording my steps on the app strava, ive seen a huge diference in a small time frame.  So ill be aiming big and doing a 6KM walk each day in May.  You can join in the fun and sign up with me and we can create a team or you can cheer me on the way by making a small donation to the ACRF (Australian Cancer Reasearch Fund) and make your difference that way.  Thanks for stopping by and having a look.  If you do donate thankyou so much for beliveing in me and supporting the ACRF.
