Overwhelmed by the generosity

I’m honestly so overwhelmed by the incredible support from our community down South Adelaide. 

So many amazing local businesses have got involved with our fundraiser by donating items and vouchers for the raffle. Not only have they been so generous, but everyone I’ve dealt with has been absolutely lovely. It truly means so much! 🥰

A little behind the scenes of the fundraiser

This past week, I’ve been busy working on the posters for this fundraiser and what a challenge it has been!

This was my first time using AI and I decided to give it a go because I wasn’t really sure where to start with creating a professional-looking poster. The initial design came together really well, and after making quite a few changes, I was finally happy with how it was looking.

Of course, there were a few unexpected roadblocks along the way! 😂

Some of the challenges I came across included:

• Every time I made a change to the poster, the AI would somehow change my face in the photo!
• Getting it to use the original photo I used while keeping the rest of the poster exactly the same proved to be quite a challenge.
• For some reason, the QR code wouldn’t work properly when it was added by AI. So, I ended up printing the poster without the QR code and adding it afterwards.
• Then came the printing! The first attempt wasn’t the best quality, and the poster wasn’t fitting correctly to the full A4 page.

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to get some help from a lovely graphic designer named Victoria who helped me get everything formatted correctly so the poster would print beautifully across the full page without becoming blurry.

Now that the posters are ready, it’s time for the next step — getting out there and approaching local businesses to see if they would be happy to display one and help spread the word about this fundraiser.

I’ve also been able to collect some more fantastic vouchers for the raffle, which is absolutely amazing! Every contribution, big or small, is helping bring this fundraiser together, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported it so far.

What an exciting start !

WHAT A WEEK ITS BEEN! 

Since officially launching my fundraising page on 9/9/26, I’ve been completely blown away by the support!

It’s been just over a week, and we have already raised an incredible $620! 🎉 Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared my fundraiser, or supported me in any way. Every little bit makes a difference and helps me get one step closer to reaching my goal.

I’ve also been busy behind the scenes! I’ve started working on the design for my fundraiser posters, which I’ll soon be putting up around local cafés, businesses and other community spaces to help spread the word.

I’ve also started collecting some amazing items and vouchers from generous local businesses to create a BIG gift basket that will be raffled off once it’s ready!

Let’s do this

I’ve decided to shave my head to help raise money for cancer research. 

For those who know me, you’ll know that my hair is a pretty big deal to me. It has always been my little way of treating myself and something I’ve loved putting time, effort and money into.

For the past 15 years, I’ve spent countless hours and plenty of money experimenting with different colours, styles and looks. I’ve also been going to the same hairdresser, Melita, for more than 10 years. She has been part of my hair journey through all the changes, and she’s not just my hairdresser — she’s family. 

And now, she’ll be the one helping me take the biggest step of all and shave it off.

We’re aiming for the end of December or early January, depending on when Melita welcomes her new baby. 

I’ve actually wanted to shave my head for a cancer-related fundraiser since I was in high school, but I never quite had the courage to do it. This time, I’ve decided it’s time to take the leap.

Cancer is something that has affected my life personally. I’ve lost friends and family to cancer, and I know so many others who have experienced the same heartbreak. Most of us have either lost someone we love or know someone whose life has been touched by cancer.

That’s why I want to do something that feels big, meaningful and a little scary to me — and turn it into something positive.

I’d love to raise as much as I can towards cancer research and help support the search for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. 

I will also be uploading photos of my hair journey where you can see just how much time, effort and money I’ve put into my hair over the years. 

Hopefully, it gives you a little idea of just how dramatic this decision is for me — and why I’ve chosen my hair as the thing I can give up to help make a difference.

And I won’t be stopping at the shave! Over the next few months, I’ll be doing a few extra things to help raise as much as possible:

🎟️ Raffles — I’ll be running raffles over the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled if you’d like to grab a ticket.

🍽️ Cooked meals — I’ll be preparing meals for people to purchase, with the extra money going towards the fundraiser.

🧁 Garage & bake sale — I’ll also be holding a garage and bake sale, so there will hopefully be something for everyone!

Every donation, ticket, meal, purchase or share will help — and it all adds up.
